A young woman caught between past and present journeys through a shifting landscape of memory. As a therapist bears witness to her story, fragmented memories begin to transform, opening the possibility of a future no longer defined by trauma.
Created from more than 30,000 hand-painted frames, SEE MEMORY explores a remarkable discovery from neuroscience: remembering is not simply retrieving the past. Each time we recall a memory, we may also change it.
Through paintings that continually dissolve, are erased, and re-form, filmmaker Viviane Silvera gives visual expression to the fluid and reconstructive nature of memory. Interweaving these moving paintings with insights from leading neuroscientists and psychiatrists, the film invites us to reconsider how our memories shape who we are — and how changing our relationship to the past might change our future.
